Monterey Secondary College has a proud history of educating young people for over half a century.
Foundation Years
Established in 1966, the College has served the communities of Frankston, Frankston North, Carrum Downs and Seaford, providing a comprehensive education that prepares students for their future.
In its foundation year, the original students of Monterey High School were housed in four portable classroom buildings located at the Monterey State School in Monterey Boulevard. The campus of the High School on Forest Drive was completed in late-1966, with its students moving in at the commencement of 1967.
Merger and Modernisation
The merger of the High School and Technical School took place between 1993 and 1995, with the new name of “Monterey Secondary College” being adopted in 1993 and officially used from 1994. The former Technical School became the main campus (years 7–10) of the College in 1994, while the former High School was retained as a campus for senior students (years 11–12) completing the Victorian Certificate of Education during the merger years.
In recent years, Monterey Secondary College has undergone significant upgrades and modernisation. The school has built new community and wellbeing facilities to improve services for students and their families, a new health and sports science Centre of Excellence providing employment pathways based on local industry needs, a welcoming community area that invites parents and the wider community to share school resources, and a competition-grade gym.
Improvement and excellence
Recently, Monterey Secondary College received a number of awards including a Victorian Education Excellence Award, The Lindsay Thompson Award for Excellence in Education, and an Australian Education Excellence Award. These awards are a testament to the school’s commitment to providing a high-quality education for all students and its ongoing dedication to excellence.
Since 2019, the school has seen significant improvements in all major measures of school performance including academic outcomes, student engagement and wellbeing, staff culture and retention, and extracurricular programs and community partnerships.
