Welcome to Monterey Secondary College! It’s with great pride that I share the ongoing story of Monterey Secondary College and how our school and staff serve our students and our community.
My leadership journey with Monterey Secondary College began in 2019, marking the start of our transformative work with the Berry Street Education Model. This foundation paved the way for our adoption of Trauma-Informed Positive Education (TIPE), now recognised as best practice by experts and external leaders in this space. TIPE has become a cornerstone of our approach, shaping how we support students in their academic and personal growth.
At Monterey, our classrooms are calm, nurturing spaces where student learning thrives. Our staff are attuned to the emotional well-being of our students from the moment they step into the classroom to the time they leave. We believe that students must be well to learn well, and our staff provide timely support through check-ins and encouragement whenever needed.
Once our students are ready to learn, we shift focus to fostering excellence in learning. With a strong foundation in well-being, we set high expectations for success and strive to inspire our students to become independent lifelong learners. Our commitment to this vision is reflected in our perception survey data, which consistently surpasses state averages, demonstrating our shared culture of high standards and academic achievement.
The 2020 school year brought significant enhancements to our facilities, with the addition of a state-of-the-art stadium and the Centre of Excellence. This innovative space supports the development of employment skills across practical subjects, including Cookery, Hospitality, Coding, Game Design, Science, Furniture Making, and Building and Construction. Additionally, we offer specialised spaces for Drama, Music Performance, Sound Production, Visual Communication, Visual Arts, Health Services, and Community Services.
Through Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificates, we ensure our students are well-prepared for employment pathways. These advancements were part of the award-winning Frankston North Education Plan, which earned the Lindsay Thompson Award for Excellence in Education in 2022 – the Victorian Department of Education’s highest honour.
This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of Monterey Secondary College, Aldercourt Primary School, and Mahogany Rise Primary School, as we work together to ensure a seamless transition and continuity of learning for our students. Our shared vision is to nurture resilience, foster excellence, and prepare our students to thrive in their future endeavours.
